DescriptionGrand Army of the Republic pin from the 34th Annual National Encampment. The pin has an eagle insignia that holds a cloth ribbon at the end of which is a five-point star with "G.A.R" in red, white, and blue.

Josiah Demby was born August 20, 1840 in Georgia. Prior to 1860, he moved to Arkansas. At the outbreak of the Civil War, Demby enlisted as a 1st Lieutenant in Co. G of the 4th Arkansas (Union) Cavalry in Little Rock. He was commissioned as an officer on March 8, 1864 and mustered out on June 30, 1865.

After the war, he was a farmer who served both in the state legislature for one term and as a Major in a state militia called Catterson's Militia. Josiah Demby died on February 12, 1918 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
