DescriptionThis chest of drawers belonged to the daughters of John Augustus Jordan of Desha County, Arkansas. The daughters (Mary and Maude) used it to store their doll clothes. Mary later married Dr. Lorenzo P. Gibson, Jr. (son of Arkansas Legislator Lorenzo Gibson). Empire Style mahogany chest of drawers with flame veneer and four drawers over a scalloped skirt. The front corners have cup turned finial decorations. The top drawer is graduated smaller than the lower three. The knobs are turned wood and there are circular brass escutcheon plates. The secondary wood is local from Arkansas (pine or birch).
