DescriptionOil portrait of Matilda (Maude) Jordan (1853-1913), aged 5 daughter of Dr. John Augustus Jordan and Irene Johnson. Maude was born in Douglas township, now Lincoln County, Arkansas. She was named for her maternal grandmother, Matilda Williams Jordan (2008.174.06). Maude is buried in Mount Holly Cemetery, Little Rock, Arkansas. Maude is wearing a white lace dress which exposes her shoulders. She is also wearing a yellow sun hat with a light blue ribbon. She sits alertly with a wistful expression with her legs folded underneath her. She is also wearing patent leather shoes. There is a flower basket behind her which carries a red and white floral arrangement.
She was the eldest daughter of the Jordans. Her sister, Mary Jordan, married Lorenzo P. Gibson, Jr. Maude never married and lived with her sister and Dr. Gibson until her death.
