While after the Doolin Gang, Burke and two others killed "Dynamite Dick" Clifton. Bufre and Tilghman captured "Cattle Annie" and "Little Brutches" who were cattle thieves as well as being spies for Bill Doolin's "Wild Bunch." After four years as Marshal he resigned and became an evangelist and died while delivering a sermon in Paris, Texas. Marshal E. D. Nix said Burke was one of the bravest men he had known.
