DescriptionA Scott Joplin album entitled "Piano Rags by Scott Joplin. Volume II. Joshua Rifkin, Piano". The album cover features an illustration of Joplin seated at a piano with sheet music illuminated by candlelight. An orange frame and yellow background surround the image. Nonesuch Records produced the album in 1972.

Scott Joplin (c.1867/1868-1917) was an American composer and pianist who was raised in Texarkana, Arkansas. Joplin achieved fame for his ragtime compositions and was dubbed “The King of Ragtime”. During his career, he wrote 44 original ragtime compositions including “Maple Leaf Rag”, one of ragtime’s most influential hits. Joplin’s death is widely considered to have marked the end of ragtime as a mainstream music format and, in 1976, Joplin was posthumously awarded a Pulitzer Prize.
