It gives me great pleasure to send greetings to all those gathered at the Old State House Museum as we celebrate the return of seventy-two years of Arkansas State Police history and memorabilia back to its original home. All Arkansans join in welcoming this recent major acqusition, known as the Arkansas State Police Collection.

Initially known as the Arkansas Rangers upon their founding in 1935, the State Police then consisted of thirteen men headquartered in three rooms in the East Wing of the Old State House, then known as the War Memorial Building. This homecoming of artifacts and State Police history will be placed on permanent display in conjunction with a future exhibit, Gavels and Gallows: Arkansas Law & Justice, scheduled to open in 2008.

Arkansans owe a huge debt of thanks to the members of the Arkansas State Police, past and present, for their willingness to provide corageous service, for their devotion to duty, and for their regard for the safety of all Arkansans. We deeply appreciate the staff of the Old State House Museum for their efforts to ensure state-of-the-art, museum quality conservation and care of the ASP collection, while also providing the public with access to this proud history through special exhibits, educational programs, and the Internet.
