DescriptionBetty Bumpers and Nell Balkman discussing concerns about Betty's childhood immunization project, "Every Child in '74." Betty is on the left wearing a necklace, earrings, and a stripped sleeveless shirt. Nell is on the right wearing glasses and a collared stripped shirt.

Betty Bumpers was the thirty-fifth First Lady of Arkansas (1971-1975). Her “Every Child in ‘74” was implemented in 1972, to have every child in the state immunized against childhood diseases. By 1983, 100% of the children in Arkansas were immunized. The program was so successful it was used as a model nationwide.
