DescriptionThe Confederate battle flag of the 6th Regiment Arkansas Volunteers in the Hardee Pattern dated to 1862. The flag consists of a blue canton and three bars - red, white, red. The edges of the flag are red with scalloped red fringe. Eleven five-pointed stars are located in the canton. Ten of the stars encircle one white start in the middle. The ten stars alternate between white and red. The unit designation is located in the white bar and is embroidered in black. It reads "6'th REG'T ARK'S VOL'S." On the reverse side painted in capital blue letters is the battle honor "Perryville."
The flag was found in a fright car at the railroad depot in Macon, Georgia, on April 20, 1865 by John W. Deen, Co. C of the 17th Indiana Mounted Infantry. It was then turned over to the United States War Department and assigned capture number 500.
