DescriptionOriginal poster from the movie, "Brubaker." The poster is sepia toned with white trim, red and white print, and shows an image of Robert Redford. "The most wanted man in Wakefield prison is the Warden" is printed above Redford's head in white. Movie credits are listed at the bottom of the poster. The movie stars Redford, Morgan Freeman, Jane Alexander, and Yaphet Kotto. In the film, Redford plays a prison warden who goes undercover as a prisoner in an attempt to reform the prison. Released in 1980, Brubaker is loosely based on the 1969 nonfiction book "Accomplices to the Crime: The Arkansas Prison Scandal" by Joe Hyams and Thomas O. Murton. Murton was hired as a prison warden in the late 1960s to modernize two prison farms in Arkansas: the Tucker State Prison Farm (Tucker, Jefferson County) and the Cummins State Prison Farm (Grady, Lincoln County). The controversial book and movie brought national attention to issues such as prisoner abuse, inhumane conditions in prisons, and the need for modernization.
