DescriptionCivil War identification badge for Confederate Pvt. Thomas C. Bird of Co. C, 2nd Arkansas Mounted Rifles. He was originally in the 21st Arkansas Infantry, but was transferred to the 2nd Arkansas Mounted Rifles on August 19th, 1863 by order of General Johnston.

Bird enlisted with the Confederacy on March 2, 1862 in Des Arc, Arkansas and was killed at Chickamauga on Sept. 19, 1863. He was listed on the Confederate Roll of Honor in 1864.

The disc is hand-fashioned trench art in a clover leaf shape. Possibly made from a lead bullet. It was recovered on the Chickamauga Battlefield most likely where Bird fell in battle.
