Michael Dale Huckabee was born on August 24, 1955 in Hope, Arkansas. Huckabee ran for U.S. Senate in 1992, but lost to Dale Bumpers. Huckabee went on to run in the special election for the open lieutenant governor position in 1992 and won. In 1996, Huckabee was sworn in as the forty-fourth governor of Arkansas. Huckabee was reelected in 1998. During his time as governor he led campaigns to rebuild the state highway system, pushed for Arkansas's tobacco settlement to be used for the state's health care system, and also began a push for educational reform. Huckabee ran for U.S. President in 2008 and 2016, but did not receive the Republican Party nomination either time. Huckabee and his wife currently live in Florida.
