    Dale Leon Bumpers was born on August 12, 1925 in Charleston, Arkansas. He married longtime girlfriend Betty Lou Flanagan on September 4, 1949. He was the thirty-eighth governor of Arkansas serving from 1971 to 1975. He went on to serve in the U.S. Senate from 1975 to 1998. Bumpers thought about running for President in 1984, but decided against it. He went on to serve as Director of the Center for Defense Information, and he joined the Arent Fox Kinter Plotkin & Kahn law firm in Washington, D.C in 2000. Bumpers retired in 2008 and moved to Little Rock. He died on January 1, 2016.
