    DescriptionFull length, sleeveless cape with wide collar. Royal blue with white lining. Weight of the cape is extremely heavy. Cape rests on shaped shoulder construction with metal hooks at neckline and tie fasteners in the interior waistline. Worn by Mrs. Katherine Carson Breckinridge, wife of Clifton Rodes Breckinridge, the United States ambassador to Russia. The cape and gown (see 1986.011.01a-c) was worn to the coronation of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia in May, 1896.
