    DescriptionRectangular, wool on burlap hooked rug. Floral motif in variegated colors around perimeter and in center. Between floral pattern is a chain pattern. Rug has a beige background.

    hooking is a technique of drawing loops of cloth or yarn through a fabric backing to form a thick pile which can be sheared or left uncut. Hand hooking is the traditional method. Hooked rugs became more popular after the civil war when rug pattern desins were produced and marketed.
