DescriptionBrown wooden stained cane with a metal band around bottom and a metal point sticking out of the bottom of cane; engraved at neck of cane: "Bois de Rappes Francais 19-9-13 to 12-6-18 Hill 323 11-10-18 Armistice signed HR 11-11-18"

This cane was picked by First Lieut. Ernest Eugene Stansbery on Hill 323 in Bois-de-Rappes, France. The armistice was signed on that hill.

Stansbery was born in 1893 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. His family moved to Arkansas when he was two. He attended Little Rock public schools and then the University of Arkansas.

After World War, Stansbery was in the engineer in charge of building the Broadway Bridge over the Arkansas River in Little Rock. He also helped build the first airport in Little Rock.
