    DescriptionHandcarved pine letter opener with inscription "Wood from Confederate White House, Richmond - Now the Confederate Museum - J.W. Barr". Carved by Civil War vet., Sgt. David Barr. He was stationed at the Confederate White House in Richmond, VA at the time of surrender. Wood came from staircase in the Confederate White House.

    J.W. Barr was Jane Eliza Whittle Barr. Jane was the eldest daughter of Commodore William Conway Whittle, Sr. who served in the Confederate Navy. She was the wife of Sgt. David Barr.
