DescriptionPhotograph of Lynwood “Schoolboy” Rowe (1910-1961), right-handed Major League Baseball pitcher. In 1933 he signed with the Detroit Tigers and pitched in the 1935 World Series which Detroit won. In 1943 he played for the Philadelphia Phillies taking two years off to serve in the Navy during World War II. He returned to the Phillies in 1945 where he remained until retirement in 1949. Rowe played in three All Star games in 1935, 1936 and 1947. He died in 1961 in his hometown of El Dorado, Arkansas..

At the end of his 15 year major league career, Rowe won a total of 158 games, lost 101, struck out 913 batters, had a life time batting average of .263 as a batting pitcher, hit 18 home runs, was a three time All-Star (1935, 1936, 1947) and won the 1935 World Series.
