DescriptionAmerican school-style oil on canvas portrait of Territorial General George Izard. Izard served as Arkansas's second territorial governor from May 1825 until his death in 1828. During his tenure, Izard began organizing the territorial government into a more adequate institution, particularly dealing with natural resources, Indian affairs and the strengthening of Arkansas's militia, as well as establishing an arsenal and developing roads throughout the territory. Izard County is named after him.
