    DescriptionA sepia photograph of former Governor James P. Eagle. The photograph depicts Eagle wearing a white high collar shirt with a bowtie. Over his shirt is a double breasted jacket. Eagle is facing forward and his beard covers his bowtie. At the bottom of the photograph is text which reads, "Daivson, Little Rock, Ark."

    James Philip Eagle was born August 10, 1837 in Marion County, Tennessee. His family relocated to what is now Lonoke County in 1857, and on January 3, 1882 he married Mary Kavanaugh Oldham Eagle. He served as governor from 1889-1893, a time of great political division among the Democratic Party in Arkansas. As a devout Baptist minister, Eagle was elected president of the Arkansas State Baptist Convention for twenty-four consecutive years. He passed away December 20, 1904.
