DescriptionA portrait of Governor Jim Guy Tucker painted by Nancy Harris in 1998. The portrait depicts Governor Tucker sitting in a wooden chair with his left hand resting on the armchair and his right elbow resting on the armchair arm so his head can rest on his index and middle fingers. On his right, is a table with a book, a fountain pen and inkwell (see oshtl2017.031.02.1-3). Governor Tucker is facing forward and is smiling while wearing a black suite with a white button down collared shirt, a white pocket square, and a striped red, silver, and black tie.

James “Jim” Guy Tucker Jr. was born on June 13, 1943 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. On November 8, 1975 he married Betty Allen Alworth. In 1990, Tucker won the race for Lieutenant Governor, and he became acting Governor when Clinton began his presidential campaign. Tucker then became governor in December 1992 upon Clinton’s resignation, and in 1994 Tucker was elected the forty-third Governor of Arkansas. After he left office, Tucker went on to focus on his business enterprises.
