DescriptionA photograph of Winthrop Rockefeller dated to February 29, 1964 in New York City. The photo was taken when Rockefeller announced that he was planning to run for Arkansas Governor. Rockefeller is sitting in a chair behind a desk wearing a suit and tie with a pin on the lapel. A plant, on a table, is visible in the background.

Winthrop Rockefeller was born on May 1, 1912 in New York City, New York. Rockefeller moved to Morrilton, Arkansas in 1953, founding Winrock Farms and entering into state politics shortly thereafter. In 1955, Governor Faubus named Rockefeller to the Arkansas Industrial Development Commission. Rockefeller lost the 1964 Governor's election to Faubus before becoming the thirty-seventh Governor of Arkansas in 1967. He was reelected in 1969. Rockefeller died of pancreatic cancer on February 22, 1973, in Palm Springs, California.
