DescriptionA black and white photograph of T.J. Terral. This photograph was taken on June 11, 1925, while Terrell was at the White House with officers from the Arkansas National Guard. The men met with the President in order to gain permission to use 65,000 acres of government land in Arkansas as a flying field for the Aerial Squadron of the Guard. Terrell is wearing a pinstriped blazer with a gingham bowtie. It is a National Photo photograph.

Thomas Jefferson Terral was born on December 21, 1882 in Union Parish, Louisiana. After graduating from law school at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Terral established a law practice in Little Rock. He began his political career in Arkansas as the assistant secretary of the Arkansas Senate and the deputy state superintendent of public instruction. Terral also served as a two-term secretary of state and as governor from 1925 to 1927. He is best known for targeting growing government inefficiencies in Arkansas and drastically reduced the number of boards and commissions from eleven with over sixty to one board with three full-time, paid members. Terral also funded Arkansas’ first state park on Petit Jean Mountain. He married his wife, Eula, in 1914. Terral passed away on March 9, 1946.
