DescriptionA side chair made of a dark wood with gold cloth upholstery on the seat and a fiddleback belonging to former Arkansas Governor James P. Eagle. The back also has two smaller splats on either side of the central splat. The legs and stretchers of the chair are all turned wood.

James Philip Eagle was born August 10, 1837 in Marion County, Tennessee. His family relocated to what is now Lonoke County in 1857 and on January 3, 1882 he married Mary Kavanaugh Oldham Eagle. He served as governor from 1889-1893, a time of great political division among the Democratic Party in Arkansas. As a devout Baptist minister, Eagle was elected president of the Arkansas State Baptist Convention for twenty-four consecutive years. He passed away December 20, 1904 and is buried in Mount Holly Cemetery.
