DescriptionA photograph of James P. Eagle, Mary Eagle Oldham, and their niece Lillian Oldham. The family is sitting on a front porch. James P. Eagle is reading with his feet propped up while Lillian Oldham is sitting in Mary Eagle Oldham's lap.

James Philip Eagle was born August 10, 1837 in Marion County, Tennessee. His family relocated to what is now Lonoke County in 1857 and on January 3, 1882 he married Mary Kavanaugh Oldham Eagle. He served as governor from 1889-1893, a time of great political division among the Democratic Party in Arkansas. As a devout Baptist minister, Eagle was elected president of the Arkansas State Baptist Convention for twenty-four consecutive years. He passed away December 20, 1904 and is buried in Mount Holly Cemetery.
