DescriptionA black and white photograph of Winthrop Rockefeller (midde) with William Bevan and Dr. David Donald at Shriver Hall on the campus of John Hopkins University in 1967. Rockefeller had recently been elected as Governor of Arkansas. The photo was taken by William G. Hotz.

Winthrop Rockefeller was born on May 1, 1912 in New York City, New York. His grandfather, John D. Rockefeller, was the founder of Standard Oil Company. Rockefeller moved to Morrilton, Arkansas in 1953, founding Winrock Farms and entering into state politics shortly thereafter. In 1955, Govenor Orval Faubus named Rockefeller to the Arkansas Industrial Development Commission. Rockefeller lost the 1964 Governor's election to Faubus before becoming the thirty-seventh governor of Arkansas in 1967. He was reelected in 1969. Rockefeller died of pancreatic cancer on February 22, 1973, in Palm Springs, California.
