    Wilbur D. Mills was born in Kensett, Arkansas, and served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1939 to 1977. He also served as Chairman of the United States House Committee on Ways and Means from 1958 to 1974, the longest any person has held the post. Mills was a candidate in the 1972 Democratic primaries for president but was defeated by George McGovern. He passed away on May 2, 1992 and is buried in Kensett Cemetery.
