DescriptionA black and white photograph of Winthrop Rockefeller, then serving as chairman of Arkansas Industrial Development Comission, at his home in Morrilton, Arkansas, in 1957. The Associated Press Wirephoto ran with an article detailing his unwillingness to support his friend and then-Governor of Arkansas Orval Faubus's political stance during the integration crisis.

Winthrop Rockefeller was born on May 1, 1912 in New York City, New York. His grandfather, John D. Rockefeller, was the founder of Standard Oil Company. Rockefeller moved to Morrilton, Arkansas in 1953, founding Winrock Farms and entering into state politics shortly thereafter. In 1955, Govenor Orval Faubus named Rockefeller to the Arkansas Industrial Development Commission. Rockefeller lost the 1964 Governor's election to Faubus before becoming the thirty-seventh governor of Arkansas in 1967. He was reelected in 1969. Rockefeller died of pancreatic cancer on February 22, 1973, in Palm Springs, California.
