DescriptionA photograph of actress and dancer Irene Castle. She, along with her husband Vernon, were well-known ballroom dancers. Castle was a fashion trendsetter credited with popularizing the 'bob' hairstyle and jeweled headbands. In 1914, the Castles appeared on Broadway starring in "Watch Your Step", a musical scored by Irving Berlin. Irene made nearly 20 films in her career. In 1954, she chose Eureka Springs, Arkansas as her home and lived there until her death in 1969. The black and white photograph features an image of Castle wearing a dark coat with fur-trimmed sleeves, ball buttons, and tall hat. The label on the back of the photograph reads: "Culver Service Photos Research", "205 E 42nd St", "New York City", "Tel Murray Hill 4-5054. 7295". Handwritten, a note says: "Irene Castle, 1939".Status
