James Bridges was born February 3, 1936 in Paris, Arkansas. He was a screenwriter and director. He got his start writing for Alfred Hitchcock’s television series and went on to write nine films and direct eight films including “The China Syndrome,” “Urban Cowboy,” “Perfect,” and “Bright Lights, Big City.” He was nominated for two Academy Awards for Best Writing, Screenplay for both “The China Syndrome” and “The Paper Chase.” He was also nominated for two Golden Globes for “The China Syndrome” in the Best Director and Best Screenplay categories. Bridges died June 6, 1993 in Los Angeles, California.
