Billy Bob Thornton was born on August 4, 1955, in Hot Springs (Garland County), Arkansas, and grew up in Malvern (Clark County), Arkansas. He is an actor, director, screenwriter, and musician. His career began in the late 1980s and he has since appeared in over 60 films and directed five films. Thornton returned to Arkansas to direct “Sling Blade,” costarring Robert Duvall, John Ritter, and Dwight Yoakam. Thornton’s Karl Childers became one of cinema’s most memorable characters. In 1996, Thornton won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay (Slingblade) and was also nominated for Best Actor. He has received three Oscar and four Golden Globe nominations during his career.
