Peggy Shannon was born Winona Sammon in Pine Bluff, Arkansas in 1907. She was hired as a chorus girl by Florenz Ziegfeld in 1923 while visiting her aunt in New York. The following year she was cast in Ziegfeld Follies. She later appeared on both stage and screen. In 1927 while on Broadway, she was spotted by B.P. Schulberg, production head of Paramount Pictures, and was offered a contract. When she arrived in Hollywood, she was hailed as the next “It Girl,” replacing the former, Clara Bow. She made over thirty films, appearing in her last role in 1940. Shannon died in 1941.
