DescriptionPress photograph of West Helena native William Warfield in the play "Porgy and Bess."William Warfield was a concert bass-baritone singer and actor born in West Helena, Arkansas, in 1920. Warfield is best known for his roles in “Porgy and Bess” and in the film version of “Showboat." He is largely credited with performing the best rendition of the classic song "Ol Man River." He acted in five films. Warfield still performed up until his death in 2002.
