DescriptionA movie poster for the 2010 remake of the original 1969 film "True Grit." "True Grit," which is based on a novel by the same name, was written by Arkansas native Charles Portis. The novel and both films are partially set in Fort Smith, Arkansas.The 2010 film also features folk singer and Arkansas native Iris DeMent, who was born in Paragould, Arkansas. DeMent's rendition of the well-known church hymnal "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms" plays during the closing credits of the film; however, the song does not appear on the film's official soundtrack.
Charles Portis (1933- ) was born in El Dorado, Arkansas. He is an American author best known for his 1968 novel "True Grit," which was made into films in 1969 and 2010. The 1969 version co-starred Arkansas native Glen Campbell and John Wayne. Portions of the novel and movie take place in Fort Smith, Arkansas, although neither movie adaptation was filmed in the state. Portis currently resides in Little Rock, Arkansas. He has written five novels -- "Norwood," "True Grit," "Dog of the South," "Masters of Atlantis," and "Gringos." His first novel, "Norwood," was also made into a movie and starred Campbell.
The poster has a black background with photographs of the leading actors (from left to right), which includes Hailee Steinfield, Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and Josh Brolin. In addition to the film title and acting and directing credits, text also includes "Punishment / Comes One Way or Another" at the top and "Retribution 2011" at the bottom. The poster has various sized gray lettering. A bullet hole that has blood dripping from it appears between the two words of the title.
