DescriptionCarte de Visite image of Captain Reuban Kay while he was a prisoner at Johnson's Island.. Ink signed. Kay was born in Dover, Tennessee in 1838. At the age of 14, he entered the Kentucky Military Institute and graduated in 1858. He then lived in St. Joseph, Missouri. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he joined the Missouri State Guard and served as an aide to Colonel John Taylor Hughes in the 1st Infantry Regiment, 4th Division at Wilson's Creek. He later served as adjutant of the 7th Missouri Cavlary and then became assistant adjutant general on the staff of General M. Jeff Thompson. He was captured with Thompson in Randolph County, Arkansas in 1863 and sent to several prison camps before being paroled in 1865. After the war, he went into the dry goods business in Frankfort, Tennessee. He died December 18, 1883.Image made by R.E. Weeks in Sandusky, Ohio.
