DescriptionCarte de visite of General Earl Van Dorn. Van Dorn fought in the Mexican War and was decorated for his service. During the Civil War, he was assigned to the Trans-Mississippi department, District No. 2. He commanded Confederate forces during the Battle of Pea Ridge. He was killed in 1863, not in battle, but by the husband of a woman he was having an affair with. Status
