DescriptionCarte de visite photograph of General Frederick C. Salomon. Salomon was born in Prussia but immigrated to America early in life. When the Civil War began, he became Captain in the 5th Missouri Infantry. He assisted in raising the 9th Wisconsin Infantry and was elected Colonel in Nov., 1861. He was commissioned Brig. General of Volunteers in June, 1862 and fought in the Battles of Cane Hill, Prairie Grove, Terre Noir, Poison Springs and Jenkins Ferry. He was breveted Major-General of Volunteers in March, 1865 for meritorious service.
