DescriptionFramed photograph of John, Alexander, Thomas and James Tanner. This photograph was taken during the 1911 U.C.V. Reunion in Little Rock, Arkansas. It is inscribed on the reverse side: "Four Good Men". The photographer was Echols Studio in Argenta, Arkansas.Thomas and James were Confederate veterans. Thomas served in Co. A, 47th Arkansas Mounted Infantry. In the photograph, Thomas is wearing the official veterans' badge of the 21st Reunion and an unidentified badge.
James E. Tanner was born May 1, 1840. He served in the 1st Arkansas Mounted Rifles. He was wounded at the Battle of Richmond, Kentucky. In the photograph, he wears a ribbon and a Southern Cross pinned to his U.C.V. uniform. The ribbon can be read under magnification: "J.E. Tanner, Co. B. 1st Arkansas Mounted Rifles". He became a minister after the war. James died on July 7, 1926 and he's buried in Pine Grove Cemetery.
Both Thomas and James eventually lived at the Confederate Home in Sweet Home.
