DescriptionBooklet, "Arkansas Confederate Home, Little Rock" by Zella Hargrove Gaither. Published by the New Era Press in Little Rock.

An early account of the organization and resident profiles of the Confederate Home in Sweet Home/Little Rock. Forty-six pages.

The Confederate Home was opened by the Ex-Confederate Association in 1890 near Sweet Home (Pulaski County), Arkansas. It housed Confederate veterans and veterans' widows. Originally existing in a small remodeled residence, a new building was built on site in 1892. The new building was remodeled in 1911. The Sweet Home building was closed in 1955 and the remaining residents were moved to a newer, smaller building at the School for the Blind and Deaf in Little Rock. The old buildings in Sweet Home were torn down and the area was mined for bauxite. The entire institution was closed in 1961 and the remaining Confederate widows were moved into nursing homes. The building on the school grounds still stands today.
