DescriptionStock certificate created by the Arkansas Gazette Editor, J.N. Smithee. Used as a fund raiser for the purchase of the Arkansas Confederate Soldiers monument. Sold for one dollar each. The monument was eventually placed on the State Capitol lawn in Little Rock. Smithee served in the Pulaski Light Artillary during the Civil War. He launched the campaign to raise money for the monument in 1897.Status
