    DescriptionA surveying compass made out of wood, brass, and glass. The dial is engraved with compass markings, with a fleur-de-lis set as "North". The compass was made by Roach and Warner with "Roach & Warner, New York" engraved above the "S" for "South". Outside of the rim of the compass, at North and South, are two bubble levels. The compass can be removed from the case and the stand has three holes to accommodate the staff mounts. On the back of the compass, a 0.88" diameter stand has been attached. The three pieces are fitted into a wooden case. The compass was used by Robert Sanders Burke in early Arkansas surveys from 1848-1890.
