    DescriptionA gold headed presentation cane belonging to Confederate General D.C. Govan. The body of the cane is glossy black, tapering from a gold head to a silver metal tip. The head is engraved, "Presented by 16th Iowa Vol. Inft., to, GEN. D. C. Govan 1864-1885, ATLANTA, July 22, 1864; CEDAR RAPIDS, Sept. 26, 1885." Around the body of the gold head is a low-relief vine and leaf design.

    D.C. Govan was born on July 3, 1827 in Holly Springs, Mississippi and died March 12, 1911.
