DescriptionA Senator Dale Bumpers campaign button. It is round, blue in tint and includes images of former Arkansas Senator, Dale Bumpers, in the center. Bumpers smiles in image and wears coat and tie.

Dale Leon Bumpers was born on August 12, 1925 in Charleston, Arkansas. He married longtime girlfriend Betty Lou Flanagan on September 4, 1949. In 1970, Bumpers ran for Governor of Arkansas and won, becoming the thirty-eighth governor of Arkansas. He was reelected in 1972. As governor, Bumpers was able to reduce the number of agencies that reported to the governor, improve social services available to the elderly, disabled, and developmentally challenged, granted more power to the cities, repealed the “fair trade” liquor law, expended the state park system, created a prison construction program, and advocated for education reform and advancement. He died on January 1, 2016.
