Gov. Isaac Murphy,

Dear Sir. Do you remember when more than thirty years ago you taught school in Robertson County, Tennessee at a school house on the lands of William Shaw whose children were your pupils. One of them was a favorite of yours and learned his alphabet from you. His name was Henry. He progressed very rapidly then and won your praise. That boy's father and mother, brothers, and sisters have all died and he has passed through many sever trials since then. Domestic afflictions have fallen thick and heavy on him. That boy is now a Clerk and has control of the fine Louisville and New Orleans Packet (??) (st??) David White. He is no longer a boy but a few grey hairs begin to tell that old age is creeping on. The hand which you taught to make the first mark then, now writes these lines for your perusal. Oh how I should love to meet you and talk for a week. I have often thought of you and family and have as often wondered whether or not I was forgotten. I have just met an acquaintance of yours Mr. Patton. He tells me you reside in Little Rock. I should be glad to hear from you. Reflections crowd on me too thick now. I will write more when I have leisure. Good Bye, God Bless you and family.

Your friend,
HB Shaw
