Governor I. Murphy,
I found my Regt. (regiment) doing well and in fine spirits. They have extensive gardens, good prospect of raising something to eat. The citizens are doing all they can, in the way of farming. The people are generally hopeful, all are well pleased with General Bussy's administration of affairs here, I mean at Fort Smith.
There are some complaints coming from Northwest Arkansas. One cause of complaint is that Col. Harrison claiming the post at Fayetteville refuses to recognize the Militia officers commissioned by you and endorsed by the General commanding the (???) of Arkansas. The matter should be investigated by the proper authorities. This would be doing justice to all parties concerned.
All would be glad to see you up here. Col. Schaurte (???) sends his kindest regards to you. Gov. I will write you more fully when I return to Ft. Smith. General Blunt is here. Will organize a large cavalry force to organize Texas with. Also a French General by the name Duffie (???). The peace is being well supplied.
The Indians will be mustered out in a few days. They are farming extensively this season. Give my kindest regards to your family.
