The Vapors club was owned and run by Dane Harris and well-known gangster, Owen "Owny" Madden (who was also owner of the famous Cotton Club in New York). The club opened in 1960 and ran as a nightclub and an illegal gambling establishment until 1967 when Governor Winthrop Rockefeller shut down gambling altogether in Hot Springs. It remained open as a restaurant and nightclub into the 1990's. Many celebrities performed at The Vapors over the years, including Rosemary Clooney and Tony Bennett, who sang "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" for the very first time there.
