DescriptionGovernor George Washington Hays rocking chair. The chair was built in the style of the Arts and Crafts Era (1885-1915). The movement's furniture is made with generally subdued design elements with an emphasis placed on hand craftmanship. This rocker (according to Mary Ann Cruse, appraiser of the chair) bears many of the features of rural Arts and Crafts style including straight lines; oak with dark staining; a leather seat and back with brass tack accents. The proportions of the chair are large in both seat size and in chair parts.

The chair was reportedly used (according by family members) both in the Governor's Office and in his private residence on 17th and Summit Street in Little Rock, Arkansas.
