    DescriptionConstitutuinal Union campaign banner for the 1860 election in which John Bell was the Presidentional nominee and Edward Everett was the vice presidential. nominee. Their convention was held on May 9, 1860

    1860 Campaign Banner. Beige cotton banner with paint and applique work. The upper left corner shows an eagle holding a shield with five arrows in its claw and an ivy strand in its beak. The banner above the eagle reads, “Our Whole Country" in black lettering. The middle left portion contains 13 stars in the following applique pattern:

    (blue) (red) (blue)


    The lower left shows a blue applique bell standing for the Presidential candidate Bell and read "Everette" underneath representing Vice Presidential Candidate Everette.

    The rest of the flag contains alternating blue, white, and red stripes in the pattern of the United States flag. Below the stripes reads, "THE CONSTITUTION, THE UNION AND THE ENFORCEMENT OF THE LAWS" in black lettering.

    Possibly used at the National Union Convention in 1860.
