The flag is constructed in the pattern of a U.S. National although only a 21 1/2" by 31 1/2" fragment of the original flag remains. The canton is decorated on both sides with twenty-eight five-pointed stars. The stars are applied with black pigment and arranged in two concentric circles with twenty stars in the outer circle, seven in the inner circle, and the last star in the center. The motto, "TRY US," is applied with the same black pigment across the bottom of the canton in 1 3/4" Roman lettering. The alternating eight red and white stripes were formed by appliquéing pieces of red silk ribbon to each side, leaving a void in between to form the white stripes. Silk fringe is sewn to the obverse side of the top edge. The fringe appears beige in color, but it was originally gold.
