    Sister Rosetta Tharpe (1915-1973) was a singer, songwriter, and guitarist from Cotton Plant, Arkansas. Tharpe gained popularity in the 1930s and ‘40s with her gospel recordings that were a mixture of spiritual lyrics and early rock and roll accompaniment. She was known as “the original soul sister” and influenced artists such as Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, and Johnny Cash. She released songs such as “Down By The Riverside”, “This Train”, and “Rock Me”. She died October 9, 1973.

    A Sister Rosetta Tharpe album entitled "Sister Rosetta Tharpe in Concert". The Compact Disc does not have an album cover. "GOSPEL" is printed in black along the disk as well as "Sister Rosetta Tharpe in Concert" in blue letters. CD contains songs such as "Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child", "Jonah in the Whale", and "Travelin' Shoes". The album was produced by Nesac International in 1990.
