John O'Brien was born Sept. 2, 1827. He entered the war at the age of 34 as a 1st Lieutenant in Co. F of the 25th Arkansas Infantry. He was promoted to Captain during the war. He died April 27, 1913 in Little Rock, Arkansas and is buried in Cavalry Cemetery in Little Rock.
